I just played with the Windows 7 Classic ISO, it does look very nice, but it's hacked, meaning the setup says it crashed and needs to start again, when you shutdown explorer crashes. it's not a stable design. It will not allow Windows update, so it's a security risk if you were to use it online, it is not really a usable project, but I do miss the Aero Glass so much, it looks so much better than the flat mess that is Windows 8 10 and 11. I forgot how obnoxious it is using a PC with sound Effects enabled, LastOS has had them disabled since XP days, I like to work in silence. anyway, I don't recommend using it for more than a quick nostalgia hit.
Yes, I played around with it too and experienced similar issues. But it is a preview release after all. Should be awesome when it's polished a bit. I like that it is actually Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021. LOL
I also played around with "UpDownTool". It allows you to move directly from Windows 7, 8.1, 10, 11 -- yes, even Windows 11 -- to Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021 without losing your programs, files, settings or drivers. In addition, the tool repairs it by removing the bloatware and enabling you to receive official support until 2032.
Revert8Plus is a fully automated and customisable transformation pack for users of Windows 10 or 11. It enables you to transform the look of your PC into Windows 7: aero glass, Start Menu, taskbar, File Explorer, standard controls, tray menus, alt-tab, basic and classic theme, Control panel, UWP titlebars, login screen, context menus, file copy dialog, message boxes, aero peek, UAC, and Windows Media Center.
It works with all versions of Windows 10 and 11, up to 24H2. As most features do not require system file modifications, Windows updates can still be installed without issue. If you install it and for any reason change your mind, the transformation pack can be quickly and simply uninstalled from control panel.
Unfortunately, the Dec 2025 Windows Update has broken the current Revert8Plus on Windows 10 (21H2 and 22H2) and Windows 11 (23H2 and 24H2). Of course it did. LOL. Anyway, Revert8Plus v5 will correct these issues; but it has not yet been released.
They say it's likely due to the RAM shortage; but that doesn't make sense to me why folk are not upgrading to Windows 11. Seems to me that it's a testament to how bad Windows 11 really is. And they know it.
Some people are able to ignore all the bad things about windows 11 and really it does look pretty good and does the tasks well. really the reasons I don't like it is the excessive update sizes, fake hardware requirements (Only business needs BitLocker and TPM), and the ads/tracking etc, I just feel they either need to stop charging people for it, or stop making it feel like a free product with ads. Either way, I am sticking with Windows 10 LTSC IoT until 2032 and will be spending 90% of my time in Linux. The few times people have brought in Windows 11 for me to fix, I just get it working, I don't run LLStore or tweak it in any way, I wont clean up after MS with Windows 11, not when I know the next update it'll all be exactly how they want it again.
